Carburetor Installation and Tuning tips

Standard Carburetor Installation and Tuning tips

1. Clean gasket surfaces and install new base gasket and carburetor, tighten bolts evenly making sure not to over tighten [a little tighter than a spark plug].

2. Make sure you have full throttle opening. adjust as needed. Install a return spring on the throttle linkage

3. Only use liquid Teflon [no tape] install carb fittings but before you hook up your fuel lines flush one gallon of fuel through the lines to clean any dirt out of them.

4. Install all fuel lines securely, prime the bowls and check for any leaks

5. Make sure the boat or car is at running position, boat is in the water and car is level

6. Start the engine and make sure engine timing is set correctly.

7.Tuning the idle area to 2500rpm Check float levels, they should be at the bottom of the sight hole.

8. Set idle fuel pressure 6.5 to 7.5psi.

9. Idle mixture screws come pre-set but may need to be adjusted slightly, in is leaner and out is richer adjust these screws to get the best idle and always keep these screws even.

10. Checking & adjusting primary jets at the cruising speed. Bring your boat up to 3000-3500rpm or your car up to 50mph, run at this speed for about 3-4 miles, then come back to idle and shut off the engine, remove all spark plugs and adjust primary jets to get the spark plug color you want.

11. Adjust your secondary jets to get the spark plug color you want at wide open thottle. Only run at wide open throttle for 1/4 to 1/2 mile at a time max.

12. After about 5-6 hours your spark plugs should turn a little tan in color, and in 10 hours they should be tan, 20 hours dark tan

Gas Racing Carburetor Installation and Tuning tips

1. Clean all gasket surfaces and install a new gasket.

2.Install your new Nickerson carburetor and tighten using a X pattern about 15 ft. lbs.

3. Hook up your throttle linkage making sure you have full throttle, always use a positive stop under your gas pedal. Always use [2] throttle return springs.

4. Install your fuel fittings using new gaskets do not use teflon tape only liquid teflon. Before you connect the main fuel line flush a small amount of fuel through the lines to remove any dirt. Install fuel line and tighten securely

5. With the vehicle level set the fuel pressure to 8psi. and the float level to the bottom of the sight holes in the bowls, always click your fuel pump on-off-on-off to purge the air from the system to avoid fuel shooting out of the vent tubes.

6.Pump the throttle a few times and start the engine check all lines for leaks and reset your engine timing.

7. At idle with the vehicle level and fuel psi.set at 6.5 to 7.5 and float level set to the bottom of the sight hole, set idle speed [est.] 1200 to 1500 rpm. Idle mixture screws come pre set but you may have to taylor these to you engine, Turning these in will lean the mixture and out will richen it. Adjust to get the best idle. Always keep the 4 mixture screws the same.

8. For wide open throttle jetting make a full pass down the track and return to the pits and remove all spark plugs adjust jets up or down to get the proper color on the spark plugs. And always compare your jet change to your time slip if you made the right change you should have gained in performance.

9. Your fuel psi should not drop below 5psi.
